says of her work: "In an urban world of geometric constructions
I make work about the spaces in between. Exploring the potential of
drawing to retain the fleeting and ungraspable, I try to make permanent
the chaotic or unpredictable forms that become absent through their
state of flux. As much about what is not there as what is there, the
work becomes an expression of loss, memory, desire, and human endeavour
in the face of the smallest odds. Stilled and detached from their
source, the forms in the work obtain an ambiguity and take on new
meanings."
Melanie graduated with an MA in Fine Art Painting from Cheltenham
Art College. Since her degree Melanie has exhibited across London,
more recently with her studio The Florence Trust, Belgrave Gallery
in St. Ives and Thompson's in the City, London.
Melanie will be exhibiting with twist for the first time at the
Affordable Art Fair in March 2005.
